The Australian Masters Games - 23rd to 30th April 2022.

WAISA is proud to support the Australian Masters Games. Created by the Confederation of Australian Sport in 1987, the Australian Masters Games is a week-long festival of sport that brings together weekend warriors from around Australia, and the world, to enjoy an extensive sport and social program.

The Australian Masters Games will take place from Saturday 23 April to Saturday 30 April 2022 in Perth, Western Australia.

In support of the Australian Masters Games, WAISA is proud to host the Figure Skating event to be held at Cockburne Ice Arena scheduled for April 28 - 29. The event is inclusive of all adult levels. For more information visit the Australian Masters Games website.

Hall of Fame

WAISA Hall of Fame celebrates athletes, officials, and others who have made significant contributions to ice skating in Western Australia

  • Mary-Ellen Mather

    Mary-Ellen started skating when she was aged two and a half at the Sydney Glaciarium. She wen on to win 7 New South Wales Senior Championships and was the Australian Ladies Champion in 1964,65,66 & 67. Mary- Ellen represented Australia at the 1968 World Championships in Geneva and at the World Professional Championships in London.

    A founding member of the Western Australian Ice Skating Association (WAISA) in 1977 Mary-Ellen was the heart, soul and backbone of the Association until her passing in December 2016.

    Mary-Ellen was inducted into the Ice Skating Australia Hall of Fame in 2016 in recognition of her lifetime outstanding contribution to the sport and was posthumously induced as an Inaugural Member of the Western Australian Ice Skating Association Hall of Fame in 2017.

  • Tony Jonikis

    Tony served on the WAISA Council for many years. Along with his wife, Ilze, he was the driving force behind promoting Synchronized Skating in WA. Tony’s contribution to the sport as a Judging Official was outstanding. Rising from a State Judge to National Judge and ultimately to a well respected Ice Skating Union Synchronized Judge. Tony judged at several World Synchronized Skating Championships and it to honor Tony’s contribution and achievement in the sport of Synchronized Skating that the perpetual trophy awarded to the Senior Synchronized Skating Champions of Australia is named after him.

  • Ilze Jonikis

    Ilze, along with husband Tony, the driving for behind the promotion and development of Synchronized Skating in WA. Ilze was also a WAISA Councilor and Secretary for many year and helped lay the foundations of an association with strong governance and good ethical principles. Ilze also was a State, National and International Judge.

  • Danielle Broughton

    Danielle has made a great contribution to the sport of Synchronized Skating in WA both as an athlete and as a Coach.  A two time Australian National Champion Danielle has also represented Australia three times at the World Synchronized Skating Championships.

    In 2019 Danielle became the first West Australian to win a medal at a World Championships as part of Team Nexicce, Canada.  Danielle won a bronze medal for the short program at the Championships and Nexicce finished a very close fourth place overall in a very competitive field of amazing teams.

  • Jaimee Nobbs

    Jaimee is arguably one of WA’s most successful figure skaters representing WA 12 times at the Australian Figure Skating Championships winning 6 Gold Medals and 4 Bronze Medals.  Jaimee represented Australia at two Junior World Figure Skating Championships and two Four Continents Championships as a Senior Competitor.  In 2014 Jaimee became the first WA athlete to be included in a Winter Olympic Team with her appointment to the Shadow Team for the Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

    Jaimee has been an outstanding representative for WA both on and off the ice.
