Each year you must apply to become a WAISA member.
Apply and Pay Online to be a WAISA member. You will receive acknowledgement of your application and a receipt for your payment.
Your membership application is then collated with other applications and presented at the next WAISA Council meeting at which time WAISA Council will consider your application (refer WAISA Constitution, Section 5) and approve or decline your application. If your membership is declined, you will be notified. (Note only applications received prior to the cut off date before the meeting will be included for consideration).
To be eligible to participate in any test or competition (including interstate and international), your membership must have been approved by WAISA Council prior to your application for tests or registration for competition being received.
Note if your membership has not been approved by WAISA Council and you apply for a test or competition entry, you will not be eligible, this will result in your registration being cancelled and there will be no refunds of the test or competition fees.
WAISA does not provide refunds for approved memberships under any circumstance.
National Registration Insurance Levy
If you are a financial member of The Western Australian Ice Skating Association Inc., then the Ice Skating Australia levy is part of your annual membership fee. The State associations forward this National Registration Levy ($25) to ISA on your behalf. More information and insurance certificates can be found at https://www.isa.org.au/isa-insurances
WAISA holds test sessions on most months of the year. There are some months when the test session is not held due to schedule conflicts with competitions or availability of judges and availability of ice time.
Test applications must be made online, entry is considered successful upon receipt of payment. Entry is based on a first come, first served basis and will close automatically once maximum capacity has been reached. Maximum Capacity is calculated by the available ice time and estimation of tests expected.
Test sessions fill quickly, WAISA does not offer a wait list, if you were unsuccessful on your registration you will need to wait and try again when the next test session opens.
If a test registration closes prior to the advertised cutoff date and the schedule permits time for additional spots WAISA will reopen the registration process after advising our members 24hours prior.
Applicants must be an approved full financial member of WAISA at the time of application to enter a WAISA Test. Members from other Australian state associations will be considered if their home association endorses the application and if there is room in the session. WAISA members have first priority.
Any applications received who are not members of WAISA and ISA will be returned, and the application will be deemed unsuccessful.
There is a 28 day wait requirement between failing a test and re skating the same test Pattern or Technical program.

People of all ages enjoy ice-skating. Skating can improve your fitness, stamina and your waistline. Ice Rinks in WA all have programs that beginners can go to learn to skate as well as ice-hockey and figure skating programs. Some rinks also have short track speed skating programs too.
WAISA endorses the Aussie SkateTM training program for teaching beginners. Aussie SkateTM is the national learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. When you sign up for Aussie SkateTM you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. You will earn badges and other incentives as you learn fundamental skating skills. Lessons are given in a group format and led by a certified professional coach.
Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions lively using a wide variety of activities that create a fun (active activities) environment and promote learning. Aussie SkateTM is the feeder program to all other Australian skating programs, from club competition to National championships and along the Olympic pathway. Aussie SkateTM is also the feeder program in to Ice Hockey and Speed Skating.

All skaters who wish to perform in an unsanctioned event require permission. All individuals, whether skating as a single, duo or small group must complete their own Permission form. Synchronised team managers are able to submit an excel spreadsheet to WAISA with all the team details on. The responsibility fall upon the skater to make sure this form is completed at least 30 days prior to the unsanctioned event so that WAISA may ensure the approval is endorsed at a council meeting.
Whilst the skater may be intending to compete in a simple fundraiser, school holiday show or rink marketing performance for entertainment and experience, it is essential that this form be completed to cover the skater from any challenge to their eligibility to skate in a State, National or International event run in accordance with the ISU in the future. Please refer to ISU Special Regulations for Singles, Pairs and Ice Dance Rule 450 page 72.
Except in the case of a managed Synchro Team, the form is required to be completed by the Parent/Guardian of the skater. This is to ensure the information is correct (i.e. birthdate, correct spelling of the name etc).
PLEASE NOTE: On completing this online form, you will be sent an email immediately to confirm completion and receipt of the form. If you do not receive this email, please complete the form again as it hasn't registered.
FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE FORM BY THE 30 DAY DEADLINE BEFORE THE EVENT WILL RESULT IN THE SKATER NOT GRANTED PERMISSION TO SKATE. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
The Western Australian Ice Skating Association Inc (WAISA) council meets on the third Tuesday of every month.
There are times meetings need to be rescheduled due to council members availability, WAISA makes every effort to amend the published dates if changes occur.
